Football Recap: Kennedale Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Kennedale unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were beaten by the La Vega Pirates 41-3 on Friday. The Wildcats have struggled against the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Kennedale didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Trey Smith and Landon Watkins.

La Vega's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kourtney Parr led the charge by rushing for 38 yards and one score, while also throwing for 153 yards and one touchdown. Those 38 rushing yards gave Parr a new career-high. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Elbert Jones, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Looking ahead, Kennedale will be playing in front of their home fans against Aubrey at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for La Vega, they will venture away from home to square off against Celina at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
