Football Game Preview: Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] Miners vs. Wright Red Devils

The Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] Miners will head out to take on the Wright Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield]'s favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.

On Friday, Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 38-34 to North Central. The Miners haven't had much luck with the Jets recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] might have lost, but man, Leland Hollenbeck was a machine: he rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. Hollenbeck really tore up the turf during one magnificent 76-yard run. Jayden Verrett got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Cayden Harju. Aiden Partanen was another major factor on D, making 14 total tackles and defending two passes.

Meanwhile, Wright fell victim to North Central and their airtight defense back in September. They were dealt a 42-0 loss at the hands of the Jets.

Having lost for the first time this season, Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] fell to 7-1. As for Wright, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Everything came up roses for Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] against Wright when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 50-12 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Miners since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
