Basketball Recap: Cary Brown Key Part of a Team Effort in Aztecs Win

After losing to Morse the last time they met, Montgomery decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Montgomery Aztecs wrapped up 2024 with a 54-36 win over the Morse Tigers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Aztecs.

Montgomery's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cary Brown, who went 9 for 17 on her way to 22 points and six rebounds. Those 22 points gave Brown a new career-high. Paula Zumstein was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Yasmin Zufri, who posted 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Belinda Diaz, who had ten points.

Montgomery has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Morse, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.

Montgomery wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 48-27 victory against Calexico on the 28th. As for Morse, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-24 win against Mount Miguel on the 28th.
