Football Recap: Gary Chavez and Antonio Devargas Lead the Defense for Grants Win + How To Watch

It's playoff time, and Grants had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 14-7 victory over the Silver Fighting Colts on Saturday. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Pirates were the better team in the second half.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Grants' defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Gary Chavez and Antonio Devargas, who racked up five sacks between them. Devargas is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last nine games he's played.

Grants pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.8 points on average over those games. As for Silver, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

Coming up, Grants will take on St. Pius X at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates will need to watch out since the Sartans have now posted at least 31 points in their last six matchups. Silver does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
