Softball Recap: Aspen Skiers vs. Basalt Longhorns
Aspen extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-12. They came up short against the Basalt Longhorns, falling 18-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Longhorns this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-6 back in September.
Aspen saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ainsley Loeb, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double. Iola Fulton also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
As for Basalt, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-15 record. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.
On Basalt's side, Sydney Ostberg was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Ostberg has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Ava Gomes, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, Aspen will venture away from home to challenge Gunnison at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Basalt, they will face off against Rifle at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
