Soccer Game Preview: Cranston West vs. East Providence

The Cranston West Falcons will square off against the East Providence Townies at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Cranston West's last four contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Cranston West is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: La Salle Academy, who was ranked second at the time (Cranston West was ranked eighth). The Falcons never let the Rams get on the board and left with a 1-0 win on Thursday. That's two games straight that Cranston West have won by just one goal.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Alex Arroyo, who's now up to seven this season.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous five match, East Providence brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They put the hurt on St. Raphael Academy with a sharp 4-0 victory on Friday. The score was close at halftime, but East Providence pulled away in the second half with three goals.

East Providence's lineup was just a bit different on Friday as Jeremy Arevalo got a bit more time on the pitch (35 vs. his season average of 17.8). Arevalo made the most of the opportunity, scoring a goal A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.

Cranston West's win bumped their record up to 8-3-4. As for East Providence, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2-5.

Cranston West skirted past East Providence 2-1 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Townies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
