Softball Recap: Quincy Jackrabbits vs. Prosser Mustangs
Quincy had lost 13 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 0-16 to make it 14. They came up short against the Prosser Mustangs, falling 20-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-6 on Saturday.
Juliza Herrera made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Prosser, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-13-1. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Prosser's side, Layla Barnhart was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those six strikeouts gave Barnhart a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lina Lefebvre was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hannah Beck, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Quincy will challenge Selah at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
