Recap: Independence vs. Briar Woods Falcons
Independence lost to the Briar Woods Falcons back in February of 2023, but Independence didn't allow the Briar Woods Falcons the same satisfaction on Monday. Independence secured a 55-50 W over the Falcons. The win made it back-to-back wins for Independence.
Independence's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Ogburn led the charge by scoring 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ogburn has scored all season. Grant Kunkle was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Briar Woods' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Eckhaus, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Colton Auch, who scored ten points.
Even though they lost, Briar Woods smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Independence only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Independence's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8. As for Briar Woods, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7.
Independence will head out on the road to square off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Stone Bridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the in Virginia (the Bulldogs are ranked 108th, while the are ranked 229th). As for Briar Woods, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Panthers at 7:15 p.m. on January 23rd. Potomac Falls will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
