Baseball Game Preview: Eastlake Titans vs. Poway Titans

We've got a battle between Titans coming up. Poway took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Eastlake, who comes in off a win.

Eastlake's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 7-0 margin over Del Norte. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Titans.

Eastlake got a great performance from Beau Covell as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 5.2 innings pitched.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Joel Vargas, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Hamza Hatahet, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Eastlake hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive contests dating back to last season.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Poway and Cathedral Catholic meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. Poway took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cathedral Catholic.

Poway saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Smith, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Eastlake pushed their record up to 2-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Poway, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Eastlake skirted past Poway 5-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2019. Will Eastlake repeat their success, or does Poway have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
