Basketball Recap: Riverside Academy Takes a Loss

Riverside Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a 59-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Springfield Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 145th).

Leading Springfield to victory were Dequane Davis and Chase Burches. Davis posted 22 points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Burches dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 boards. Burches is becoming a predictor of Springfield's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 11-4 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Dequincy Davis was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.

Riverside Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Springfield, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-7.

Riverside Academy has already played their next contest (against St. Martin's Episcopal), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Springfield will take on South Terrebonne at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
