Basketball Recap: Unaka Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Unaka had won eight straight games and Michelle Shields did her part to make it nine on Friday. The Unaka Rangers simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the University School Buccaneers 66-39 thanks in part to Shields, who went 8 of 14 on her way to 24 points and three steals. The contest was her 12th in a row with at least ten points.

Another player making a difference was Ari Sutherland, who posted 11 points. Those 11 points gave her a new career-high.

Unaka is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.9 points per game. As for University School, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Unaka will head out to take on West Greene at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for University School, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hampton at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
