Volleyball Recap: Chloe Schwend and Sydney Cochran Secure Win for Kirksville

Kirksville's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Marshall Owls. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-0 back in September.

Kirksville had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-7.

Kirksville was led to victory by Sydney Cochran and Chloe Schwend. Cochran had five digs and three aces, while Schwend had three digs and two aces. The dominant performance also gave Schwend a new career-high in assists (16).

They weren't the only good servers: Kirksville was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. They are a perfect 6-0 when they serve at least ten aces.

Kirksville's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Marshall, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

Kirksville and Marshall could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings. The Tigers (ranked 230th) will meet Hannibal (ranked 73rd) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Marshall will face off against Hallsville at 7:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (376 vs. 164).
