Baseball Recap: Garrett Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Garrett ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Heritage Patriots 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Railroaders have posted since April 14th.

Adrian Porter looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Josh Hogle, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Garrett is undefeated when Hogle posts two or more runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jackson Ice, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Garrett kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Garrett and bumps their season record up to 13-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Heritage, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Garrett will square off against Lakeland at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Railroaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lakers have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Heritage, they will challenge Fort Wayne Wayne at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
