Recap: Centura Centurions vs. Gibbon Buffaloes
The Centura Centurions scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They blew past Gibbon 66-31 at home. The team's offensive explosion also rewarded Centura with their most commanding win of the season.
It was another big night for Barrett Fries, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mason Gorecki, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Gibbon still got an impressive performance from Tyler Weismann, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 54.8% of Gibbon's points, marking the 16th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Gibbon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
The win was the third in a row for Centura, bringing their record for this year to 4-13. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Gibbon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-13.
Centura won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Doniphan-Trumbull at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Doniphan-Trumbull knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Centura likes a good challenge. As for Gibbon, they will take on Ravenna at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Gibbon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Monday.
