Soccer Game Preview: Metamora vs. Morton

Metamora is 0-7-2 against Morton since March of 2017 but things could change on Friday. The Redbirds will welcome the Potters at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Metamora is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Ottawa with a sharp 4-1 win. The high-scoring effort was just what Metamora needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Meanwhile, Morton had already won 17 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.4 goals) and they went ahead and made it 18 on Tuesday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Cavaliers a 9-0 shutout. Given Morton's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while LaSalle-Peru are ranked 380th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Morton's victory bumped their record up to 20-2. As for Metamora, their win bumped their record up to 7-8-4.

Metamora might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from Morton when the teams last played back in April. Can the Redbirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
