Baseball Game Preview: Ashley Screaming Eagle vs. New Hanover Wildcats

The Ashley Screaming Eagle will take on the New Hanover Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Ashley will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

While Ashley's victory against Laney wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Ashley came out on top in a nail-biter against Laney on Tuesday, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Screaming Eagle have posted against the Buccaneers since April 29, 2022.

Cole Barnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Drew Potter was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, New Hanover has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.75 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They lost 11-5 to South Brunswick. The Wildcats' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Ashley's victory bumped their record up to 8-0. As for New Hanover, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-2.

Ashley skirted past New Hanover 6-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Does Ashley have another victory up their sleeve, or will New Hanover turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
