Preview: Rockhurst Hawklets vs. Nixa Eagles
The Rockhurst Hawklets will face off against the Nixa Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Rockhurst comes in on seven and Nixa on 12.
Rockhurst extended their postseason success on Friday against Lee's Summit North. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Broncos 24-21.
Rockhurst got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ethan Hansen out in front who threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Aidan Ryan, who gained 110 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Nixa stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They put the hurt on Joplin with a sharp 56-34 victory. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-14.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Malachi Rider and Quin Renfro. Rider had a great game and rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Renfro was balling out in the loss, rushing for 195 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.5 yards per carry.
Rockhurst pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.8 points per game. As for Nixa, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.
