Basketball Recap: KIPP Somos Collegiate Comes Up Short

KIPP Somos Collegiate was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy Pirates 73-20.

San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy found their leader in sophomore Ryan Hayes, who went 11 for 16 on his way to 27 points and five steals. Hayes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Braylon Groce was another key player, going 6 of 11 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds.

KIPP Somos Collegiate's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

KIPP Somos Collegiate wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 47-36 loss against Sunnybrook Christian on the 17th. As for San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy, they will head out to take on Southwest Prep Northeast at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 games.
