Softball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Mascoutah Indians

The Mt. Vernon Rams will head out to take on the Mascoutah Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Vernon will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Mt. Vernon will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Marion, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Rams came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 7-3 on Tuesday. While the Rams didn't have the best season last year (they finished 15-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Danicah Tobin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paige Watson, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Lexi Howard was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Mascoutah made easy work of East St. Louis on Thursday and carried off a 10-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won four games by nine runs or more so far this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Mascoutah and bumps their season record up to 4-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Mt. Vernon, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
