Basketball Recap: New Palestine Starts Season with Win on the Road

New Palestine had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Eastern Hancock Royals by a score of 79-67 on Friday. The Dragons haven't had any issues with the Royals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead New Palestine to victory, but perhaps none more so than Will Davison, who posted 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Those 19 points gave Davison a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Atkinson, who went 6-for-8 en route to 19 points.

Defeat or not, Eastern Hancock got some senior leadership from Caden Powers and Landyn Loring. Powers put up 19 points along with five boards and four steals, while Loring shot 50% from the field on his way to 24 points. Powers' big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Zach Stephens, who scored nine points.

Eastern Hancock's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

New Palestine didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 78-66 defeat against Greenwood on the 6th. As for Eastern Hancock, they have also already played their next contest, a 79-32 win against Wes-Del on the 6th.
