Basketball Recap: Richland Gets the Win

While Richland's win against Conemaugh Township wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, the Rams made off with a 44-43 victory over the Indians. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won three in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Richland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Leyna Roman, who posted 17 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Kallie Clawson, who scored seven points and nine rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Conemaugh Township lost on Saturday, don't look at Mayce Kordell. Despite the final result, she earned 13 points along with seven steals and five boards. Kordell is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gina Hagan, who put up six points in addition to nine rebounds and three blocks.

The victory got Richland back to even at 1-1. As for Conemaugh Township, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Richland and Conemaugh Township will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Rams will face off against rival Bedford at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Conemaugh Township is set to challenge their familiar foe Homer-Center at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
