League recap: West Marion tops St. Patrick to extend winning streak

West Marion extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 8 this week by beating St. Patrick, 63-8. The victory was the 10th in a row for the Trojans.

West Marion took down the Fighting Irish 63-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brandon Husband in the win.

Sumrall's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Will Simon threw for 337 and five touchdowns and Austin Watts had 119 yards receiving. On the ground James Jackson chipped in 90 yards. Devontae Watts helped Sumrall's passing attack out by catching six balls for 87 yards.

The Bobcats' Simon and Watts have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Simon has thrown for 3596 yards this season, while Watts, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 82 catches for 1553 yards. Vonnie Harrell from Brad Duncan's team leads the league in rushing with 1083 yards.

St. Patrick made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,502 from 8,697. The improvement was the result of 63-8 victory over Joe Rocconi's team last week.
