Basketball Game Preview: Wheelersburg Pirates vs. Waverly Tigers

The Wheelersburg Pirates will head out on the road to square off against the Waverly Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both are out to turn their luck around after having lost tight contests in their previous games.

Wheelersburg came up into this matchup off a tough 42-point loss on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Greenup County by a score of 55-52 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Pirates have suffered since January 2, 2024.

Meanwhile, Waverly didn't have quite enough to beat Eastern on Tuesday and fell 52-50. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by exactly two points.

Waverly has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season. As for Wheelersburg, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-7.

Wheelersburg strolled past Waverly when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 60-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wheelersburg since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
