Football Recap: Smiths Station Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Smiths Station extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-4. They took a blow against the Opelika Bulldogs, falling 42-6. The Panthers were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

Cohen Thomas threw for 128 yards and one TD. On the ground, Luke Sexton rushed for 53 yards.

As for Opelika, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 26 points in those games.

Opelika's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Colby Key, who rushed for 37 yards and one touchdown. Those 37 rushing yards gave Key a new career-high. Dre Vann was another key receiver, picking up 88 receiving yards and one score.

Smiths Station didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 35-21 defeat against Stanhope Elmore on the 26th. As for Opelika, they have also already played their next matchup, a 24-22 victory against Pike Road on the 26th.
