Baseball Game Preview: Elk Grove Grenadiers vs. Wheeling Wildcats

The Elk Grove Grenadiers are taking a road trip to face off against the Wheeling Wildcats at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Elk Grove beat Conant 6-2. That's two games straight that the Grenadiers have won by exactly four runs.

The team relied heavily on Myles Schwartz, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Collin Keane also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Wheeling hadn't done well against Schaumburg recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Saxons with a sharp 15-0 victory. The Wildcats not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 5th (when they won 16-1).

The win made it two in a row for Elk Grove and bumps their season record up to 5-13. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Wheeling, their record now sits at 9-10.

Elk Grove beat Wheeling 7-3 when the teams last played on Monday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grenadiers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
