Baseball Recap: Lakeland's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Lakeland entered their tilt with Winter Haven on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Blue Devils 7-5. This was a revenge game for the Dreadnaughts: when they faced off against the Blue Devils two weeks ago, they had to take a 8-3 defeat.

Lakeland got a great performance from CHASE FREDENBURG as he struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those eight strikeouts gave FREDENBURG a new career-high.

At the plate, CLAY EICHLIN and CARTER MASLYN did most of the damage at the plate: EICHLIN scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while MASLYN scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. MASLYN is becoming a predictor of Lakeland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 6-10 when he doesn't).

Lakeland now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Winter Haven, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-14.

Coincidentally, Lakeland and Winter Haven will both be playing Bartow the next time they take the field. The Blue Devils will head out to face the Yellow Jackets at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Dreadnaughts will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
