Basketball Recap: Rockport-Fulton Pirates vs. Calallen Wildcats

After flying high against Pettus last Saturday, Rockport-Fulton came back down to earth. The Rockport-Fulton Pirates fell just short of the Calallen Wildcats by a score of 48-46 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Pirates have suffered since November 18, 2023.

Brian Kizer Jr and Roman Cox certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Kizer Jr posted 13 points and five steals, while Cox had 14 points. What's more, Cox also racked up four boards, the most he's had since back in November. Austin Broder was another key player, putting up six points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Calallen to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tanner Martinez, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 14 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Sam Cecava, who put up six points in addition to 11 boards and three blocks.

Rockport-Fulton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season. As for Calallen, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-8.

Rockport-Fulton will welcome Tuloso-Midway at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Calallen, they will venture away from home to square off against Ingleside at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
