Football Recap: Nettleton Comes Up Short

Nettleton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-2. They took a blow against the North Pontotoc Vikings, falling 46-0. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2022.

As for North Pontotoc, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 points this season.

North Pontotoc's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Drew Winfun, who threw for 224 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 42 yards. Those four passing touchdowns gave Winfun a new career-high. Dee Slaughter did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 110 receiving yards.

Coming up, Nettleton will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Baldwyn at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for North Pontotoc, they are taking a road trip to challenge Alcorn Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
