Basketball Recap: Sierra Grande Skates Past Creede with Ease

Sierra Grande won the last time they faced Creede and things went their way on Friday too. The Sierra Grande Panthers claimed a resounding 67-18 victory over the Creede Miners. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 38 points or more this season.

Sierra Grande was led to victory by Jadyn Martinez and Aron Ojeda. Martinez went 10 of 19 en route to 27 points along with seven rebounds and six steals, while Ojeda went 8 for 16 on his way to 19 points in addition to eight steals and five boards. Those eight steals gave Ojeda a new career-high. Carlos Lopez was another key player, putting up four points.

Sierra Grande was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Creede only posted five assists.

The win (which was Sierra Grande's fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.5 points per game. As for Creede, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-9.

Sierra Grande won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cotopaxi at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Cotopaxi will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Sierra Grande surely won't give up without a fight. As for Creede, they and Moffat will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
