Volleyball Recap: Meridian Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Meridian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Deshler Dragons on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-0 back in September.

Meridian never let Deshler on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-20, 25-22.

Jetta Stewart paced Meridian's offense, picking up 19 kills. Stewart got some help from Olivia Schafer and her 22 assists. Finally, Jaycee Schwisow kept Meridian's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

Deshler's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Claire Sasse, who had 12 digs and one assist, and Jessie Kayser, who had 21 digs, five kills, four aces, and one block. Kayser is crushing it when it comes to kills: she's had at least five every time she's taken the court this season.

Meridian's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Deshler, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matches. Meridian will head out to take on Shelby-Rising City on Tuesday. As for Deshler, they will venture away from home to face off against Silver Lake on Tuesday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Dragons surely won't give up without a fight.
