Softball Recap: Wheatland's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to 12

Wheatland extended their winning streak to 12 on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 16-4 in the process. Everything went their way against the Bear River Bruins as they made off with a 20-7 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Chasidy Sills was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-6 with four RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, Wheatland got a massive performance out of Tatum Sousa, who went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Raelynn Hulsey also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Wheatland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in 16 consecutive contests.

As for Bear River, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

On Bear River's side, they saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Fiddyment, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another was Macy Martin, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Wheatland will be playing in front of their home fans against Durham at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Bear River does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
