Baseball Recap: Jennings County Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Jennings County kicked off their season on the road on Wednesday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell just short of the Charlestown Pirates by a score of 6-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 9-6 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Zane Weinhorst put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. Weinhorst was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

In other pitching news, Jennings County got a good showing from Alex Brooks, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits.

Back at the plate, Cole Skinner was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Ethan Speer was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

The win keeps Charlestown at an undefeated 4-0.

Coming up, Jennings County will challenge East Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Charlestown, they will take on Henryville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
