Baseball Recap: Orange Glen Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Escondido Charter, Orange Glen was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Coastal Academy Stingrays, sneaking past 8-7. That's more bragging rights for the Patriots, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jacob Morales made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Orange Glen's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Alex Martinez was excellent, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two RBI. He also got three hits, which is notable because Orange Glen is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 1-2 otherwise. Benito Beza also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Orange Glen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Orange Glen is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. This is the second loss in a row for Coastal Academy and nudges their season record down to 4-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Orange Glen will host Tri-City Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Orange Glen is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season. As for Coastal Academy, they will welcome Foothills Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Coastal Academy's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Foothills Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
