Basketball Recap: Brice Shuler Key Part of Team Effort in Panthers Win

After losing to Southern Wells the last time they met, Elwood decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Elwood Panthers managed a 46-40 win over the Southern Wells Raiders on Tuesday. The Panthers didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.

Elwood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brice Shuler led the charge by putting up nine points in addition to five assists and five boards. That's the most rebounds Shuler has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Gordon, who earned ten points.

Shuler wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Elwood was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Wells only racked up eight assists.

Southern Wells' loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joshua Aulbach, who scored seven points and eight boards. Aulbach is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Wyatt Yoder was another key player, posting 12 points.

Elwood's record is now 4-13. As for Southern Wells, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Looking ahead, Elwood will welcome Providence Cristo Rey at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Southern Wells, they will take on Woodlan at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
