Football Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Mountaineers vs. Monett Cubs

The Mt. Vernon Mountaineers will face off against the Monett Cubs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Monett took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mt. Vernon, who comes in off a win.

Mt. Vernon gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They secured a 28-24 W over Nevada. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mountaineers.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Monett and Cassville had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Cubs fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 48-46 on Friday. The Cubs haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Mt. Vernon will have to contain Dylan Washick as he made an impact in Monett's last game. He threw for 430 yards and six touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Washick's passing game has become a key predictor of Monett's success: the team is 3-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise. Carson Nestleroad was Washick's top target, picking up 154 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Monett's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Mt. Vernon, the victory also got them back to even at 4-4.
