It's playoff time, and Independence had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Chardon Hilltoppers on Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Blue Devils as they're now sitting on eight straight.
Luke Masek paced Independence's offense, picking up 19 kills. Masek got some help from Jamie Panichi and his 39 assists. Finally, Masek was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.
Independence's victory bumped their record up to 20-5. As for Chardon, they moved to 16-5 with that defeat, which also ended their nine-match winning streak.
Independence and St. Vincent-St. Mary, looking ahead, after both having extra time off, will shake off the rust and duke it out at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Chardon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
