Baseball Recap: North Putnam Wins Going Away Against Monrovia

North Putnam won the last time they faced Monrovia and things went their way on Friday too. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Bulldogs. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Kaden Helderman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Griffen Starr, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Alec McKenzie was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

North Putnam now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Monrovia, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Coming up, North Putnam will venture away from home to challenge Covington at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Monrovia, they are taking a road trip to take on Park Tudor at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
