Preview: Hilmar Yellowjackets vs. Sonora Wildcats
The Hilmar Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Sonora Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hilmar will be strutting in after a victory while Sonora will be coming in after a defeat.
Hilmar had to kick off their season on the road last Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against Gustine by a score of 35-28.
Hilmar's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emma Gomes led the charge by scoring 14 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Madalyn Alvares, who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds and 4 steals.
Meanwhile, Sonora couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 51-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gregori on Tuesday. Sonora has not had much luck with Gregori recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Adeline Hanson put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 9 points along with 9 assists and 7 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Melissa Vassar, who scored 7 points.
Hilmar's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Sonora, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
