Recap: Gilbert Indians vs. Irmo Yellowjackets
After flying high against the Columbia Capitals last Tuesday, the Gilbert Indians came back down to earth. Gilbert's tough 50-28 defeat to Irmo on Tuesday might stick with them for a while. Gilbert found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post 12 fewer assists than your opponent.
Gilbert's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alexis Gartmon, who scored 10 points along with 9 rebounds. Avery Campbell was another key contributor, scoring 2 points along with 15 rebounds.
Irmo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Claire Howard led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Howard has scored at least 25% of Irmo's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Livingston, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Gilbert now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Irmo, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gilbert will take on Ridge Spring-Monetta at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Ridge Spring-Monetta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Tuesday. Irmo's road trip will continue as they head out to face River Bluff at 6:00 p.m. on December 1st.
