Baseball Recap: Cheney Tech Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Cheney Tech came tearing into Friday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Academy of Aerospace and Engineering Jets 18-3. That's more bragging rights for the Beavers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Lucas Carlson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cheney Tech is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Carlson was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Salkeld, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Isaiah Mendez also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Cheney Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .675. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Cheney Tech's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Academy of Aerospace and Engineering, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cheney Tech will square off against Vinal RVT at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Beavers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Academy of Aerospace and Engineering, they will take on Weaver at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Beavers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 20 runs per game on average), something the Jets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
