Baseball Recap: Millville Triumphs

Millville got themselves on the board against Cedar Creek on Wednesday, but Cedar Creek never followed suit. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over the Pirates. This was payback for the Thunderbolts, who suffered a 5-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Not much got past Garrett Shapiro, who gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Cedar Creek off the board. Shapiro also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Millville is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Millville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Heacox, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Millville has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cedar Creek, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Millville will welcome Haddonfield at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Cedar Creek, they will square off against Egg Harbor Township at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
