Basketball Recap: Pensacola Catholic Starts Season with Defeat at Home + How To Watch

Pensacola Catholic unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 66-65 to the Paxton Bobcats. The game was a 26-26 toss-up at halftime, but the Crusaders couldn't quite close it out.

Despite the defeat, Pensacola Catholic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Danielle Gulley dropped a double-double with 21 points and ten boards. Gulley has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Jenecia Swindell was another key player, putting up 14 points and five steals.

Kenzie Lassiter was a one-woman wrecking crew For Paxton. as she went 6-for-9 to rack up 19 points in addition to six assists and five steals. Those six assists gave Lassiter a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Falk, who posted 11 points.

Pensacola Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 51-45 win against Rocky Bayou Christian on the 18th. As for Paxton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 41-26 victory against Baker on the 18th.
