There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. We'll tackle all that (plus a new number one team) in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Terrebonne's 25 - 17 win over Central Lafourche last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Chaz Ward. Ward earned three touchdowns and 132 yards rushing the ball. In fact, our algorithms singled out Ward as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The showdown between Catholic-B.R. (4th in the power rankings) and East Ascension (19th) shaped up to be more of a takedown. Catholic-B.R. breezed past East Ascension with a final score of 35 - 3. Catholic-B.R. made sure to walk the walk to justify being talked up as the big favorite.
No Stoppin 'Em
The St. Thomas More offense has been a force to be reckoned with this season, and last week was no different. It put the hurt on Northside with a conclusive 63 - 12 victory. St. Thomas More had two big standouts, as senior William Cryer rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns, while junior Noah Frederick ran for 100 yards and also punched in one touchdown. The combined 75-point effort made this the highest-scoring game in the power rankings for the week.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Archbishop Rummel (6th in the power rankings) and John Curtis Christian (1st). Both teams are entering with last-week wins under their belts. Of course, John Curtis Christian and Archbishop Rummel can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Saturday which team falters and which extends its success.
