Logan Trotter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because Anahuac is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-7-1 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Eli Swonke, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Noah Smith also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Orangefield had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. Everything went their way against the Warriors as they made off with a 12-3 win. Considering the Bobcats have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Matthew Johnson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Cole Sanches was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Carson Worthy, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
Anahuac's victory bumped their record up to 5-8-1. As for Orangefield, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.
Anahuac couldn't quite get it done against Orangefield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can Anahuac avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
