The Asheville Cougars had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against North Buncombe by a score of 68-60 on Wednesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Asheville was led to victory by Aris Joyner and Aidan Shaw. Joyner scored 19 points along with nine rebounds, while Shaw scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Shaw has scored all season. Kendrick Carter was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why North Buncombe lost, one person who can't be blamed is Trent Clark. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points and 4 assists. Clark is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Edmonds, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Asheville's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for North Buncombe, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.
Asheville will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Erwin at 8:15 p.m. As for North Buncombe, they will head out on the road to square off against A.C. Reynolds at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
