Chester is on a three-game streak of home losses, Sparta a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Chester Yellowjackets will take on the Sparta Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chester has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Saturday, Chester came up short against DuQuoin and fell 57-44. That's two games in a row now that Chester has lost by exactly 13 points.
Despite the defeat, Chester had strong showings from Lexie Mott, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Aubrey Colvis, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Luthy, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sparta lost to Gibault Catholic at home by a decisive 53-36 margin on Wednesday.
Chester has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-16 record this season. As for Sparta, their loss dropped their record down to 5-18.
Chester beat Sparta 43-36 when the teams last played back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Sparta's Kenzie Pierce, who scored 20 points along with four steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Chester still be able to contain Pierce? There's only one way to find out.
