Basketball Recap: Zacariah Belcher Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Carroll

Fort Wayne South Side hadn't done well against Carroll recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Fort Wayne South Side Archers walked away with a 59-52 win over the Carroll Chargers. For the Archers, this counts as revenge for the 74-62 victory the Chargers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Fort Wayne South Side's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zacariah Belcher, who went 8 for 11 en route to 18 points and six rebounds. Belcher is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Jayvon Irby was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Carroll's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paxton Crane, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 17 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Miles Hering, who posted nine points and five assists.

Fort Wayne South Side has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Carroll, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-9.

Fort Wayne South Side will take on Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Carroll has already played their next contest, a 72-40 loss against Fishers on the 25th.
