Newton (11-0) and Lakeland Regional (10-1) are battling to keep their seasons alive when they face off in a playoff match this Friday at 7:00 PM.SW
Newton went up against Westwood two weeks ago. The Newton defense started things off right, holding Westwood to zero points in the first half. That gave them a 14 - 0 advantage at the half. The second half was no different, with the defense holding Westwood to six points. That made it a 21 - 6 win for Newton, which apparently decided to repeat its 21-point effort since it worked against Pequannock the match before.
Meanwhile, Lakeland Regional can now show off six landslide victories after its most recent game. It had a great defensive game two weeks ago, holding Manchester Regional to zero points to set up the 28 - 0 win. Senior Kelvin Gonzalez continued his outstanding stretch of play as he rushed for 116 yards in the victory, marking his 5th consecutive game with over 100 yards rushing. Gonzalez has also now scored at least one touchdown in the past six consecutive games.
Of course, Lakeland Regional and Newton can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
