Pleasant Plains took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Normal University, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cardinals skirted past the Pioneers 6-4. The win was nothing new for the Cardinals as they're now sitting on six straight.

Pleasant Plains got a great performance from Cale Hatcher as he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. What's more, Hatcher posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

At the plate, Pleasant Plains let Trager Shultz and Charlie Severino run wild. Shultz went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Severino went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Pleasant Plains' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 25-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Normal University, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 20-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pleasant Plains will host Columbia at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Normal University, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Glenwood at 4:30 p.m.
