The Millennium Lions will square off against the South Davidson Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Monday, Millennium didn't have quite enough to beat Phoenix Academy and fell 3-2. While the Lions didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Firebirds 25-21 in the first set.
Millennium wouldn't go down easily and took Phoenix Academy into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-17, 25-15, 19-25, 19-17.
Despite the defeat, Millennium saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Addie Freeman had 14 digs and two aces.
Meanwhile, South Davidson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Stokes.
The match was exciting from start to finish, as three sets needed extra rallies to gain a two-point lead. The match finished with set scores of 24-26, 25-18, 27-25, 26-24.
Millennium's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for South Davidson, their loss dropped their record down to 5-18.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's match: Millennium has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.7 aces per game. However, it's not like South Davidson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
